My paintings at Laurier House National Historic Site in Ottawa

I was very honoured this summer to be selected as a guest artist by Parks Canada to display both my ceramic work and paintings at Laurier House National Historic Site in Ottawa.

The restored historic house and museum was the place of residence of two of Canada’s most notable Prime Ministers, Sir Wilfrid Laurier and the Rt. Hon. William Mackenzie King, and is open to the public for guided visits. For four weeks, a selection of my ceramic work was on display in the gift shop area, while some of my paintings made a fascinating contrast with the more formal portraiture hanging on the museum walls!

L'Arche is holding a craft sale November 6th

I am proud this year to be part of L'Arche second annual craft fair to be held Saturday November 6th at St. Richards church located at 11 Rossland just off of Merivale Road. This charity has been close to my heart ever since I went and listen to a talk given by Jean Vanier here in Ottawa a few years ago. Come and help me make this a sucessful event for this worthy organisation.

The new challenge for this fall is teapots. I have wanted some for myself and for the potters it is the culmination of all the skills we learn put together into one piece. I have spent much time building these little gems and enjoy the hand building portion of the work. This is a glimpse of what may come. Don't get too excited as something small may come of this. Inspiration from the beach

Here I was again. A place of beginnings and a place of conclusions. Lost in my thoughts, I stared, examined and observed. Little cracks and little ants marching in line in the sand. The water had run there and left its marks. I could see the deep ridges it had formed right there in the middle of the beach. You know how it is, we have all been there at one time or another. Remember that time? Your feet were deep into it, warm and cozy. Time had slowed down just enough for you to look around. Time to breathe a sigh of relief . Annual Celebrity-Carved Pumpkin Contest

SunSlip ceramics took part again this year in this October event to support children with Autism and their families. Over 100 pumpkins were transformed into Jack-O-Lantern works of art by local celebrities, politicians, media personalities and community-minded businesses, then put up for auction at local malls along with prize packages. Winners of Sylvie's two pumpkins also took home these lovely vases.

New satin glaze look for coming Open House

This is my new line of porcelain mugs ...various shades of tan and chestnut decorated with splashes of natural wood ash glaze. Early testers report back that these "are as lovely to cradle in the hand as they are to look at." I hope you will enjoy them as well! This small tea bowl (also called whiskey cup though I use mine for wine) was sold before it even left Ottawa for Toronto. You will see above that I made similar ones in the same triangular shape. (Bowl is sold)

This elegant footed bowl along with this vase, were selected to be part of the Ottawa Guild of Potters Exhibition Symphony to be held at the Ontario's Art Council in Toronto this May.
